Previous Captain’s Letters
2008

Hi All,
Ready for Sean Chairde 2008?

Next years event will return to Knightsbrook GC from Thursday 21st August to Saturday 23rd August. The format is slightly different in that we will start off with Scotch Foursomes in which both players drive and the better drive is played from there. It is a more enjoyable and easygoing start to the Sean Chairde. The format will remain the same from there on in, the only difference being we will be playing off the green tees twice which will help everybody and make it more competitive again.

Knightsbrook is the scene of Marcus's two biggest golfing achievements to date, being the winning Captain in '07 and halving his match against Karl after being four down! Well done Billy, it takes bottle to do that, I reckon you would have taken him anyway!! I think everybody will agree the accommodation, food and service was the best we ever have received and we have a guarantee that the course will be in perfect order for '08.

There were a few other memorable performances in '07 especially from Vice Capt Mick who won more points that he did in the previous five years. Hope you have peaked Mick! Also well done to Fitzer on becoming an M.V.P. which for a low handicapper is a great achievement, more of the same next year Big Guy! Oscar nearly taking out "The Intimidator" on 18, who would have guessed, next year Oscar remember to play it as a dogleg par 4! Finally well done Barnsy on producing the best drive of the week on the 14th in the singles, 4 penalty points for reckless driving with and without a golf club, you better get a caddy for next year!!

The cost for 2008 is exactly the same as 2007- €648 and the organising committee have decided that everybody this year will pay up front in full by the 10th January or sign up for Direct Debit to start 10th January and to come out on the 10th of each month for the following eight months. The DD amount is to be € 81 per month. We would also ask everybody to keep the DD going continually so that by the end of the year there will be additional money built up in the account to go towards the 10th Anniversary which may go abroad.(There will be communication on this soon). However if situations change and unforeseen things occur and someone is unable to play their money will be returned to them immediately by bank transfer.
Best of luck for 2008 and hopefully it will go down to the last match, are there a few players willing to stand up and take the shot over the water to win the Sean Chairde?!!

Cian O' Connor.
