Previous Captain’s Letters
2011

June 2011
My fellow Sean Chairde,
As this years captain of the winning team at Knightsbrook, it is my honour to write this invitational letter to you all, announcing the 2011 event.

I take particular pride in that I am the first ' non-national ' captain, this is a reflection of the camaraderie and the quality of all the lads who are involved. In this unique event, and for this I will always be grateful. Although my welcome may have cooled a bit depending on the outcome of a certain upcoming 6 Nations match.

This year we are trying a new venue - Mount Wolseley in Tullow , Co Carlow. For those unfamiliar with it, I believe it offers all the ingredients for a superb Sean Chairde. The houses, bars, food, swimming pool etc. are an improvement on past years, there will be at least 4 buggies available at all times, and the staff of this family owned estate have been very welcoming and professional in our dealings with them. The course is excellent with a variety of long and short tree-lined holes, large sloping greens , many water hazards and a great ' risk and reward ' finishing hole.

The dates are from Wednesday 10th August till Sunday 14th. Unfortunately we will be losing Sean, Shay, Cian and Paul Mac, but welcome back Marcus and two new lads - Barry Maher and Eddie Lonergan. Our congratulations go to Sully , who, whilst traveling the world looking for golf balls, has got engaged and will be getting married at the end of the summer, hopefully he will be joining us.

The format will be the same as the previous 2 years with everyone sitting out 1 of the 4-somes or 4-balls.
On the Saturday the Captains and Vice-Captains will tee off at 9.00am with the remaining matches starting at 1.30pm.

Finally, on behalf of myself and my Vice-Captain , Dave Flusk, I wish our opposing Captain and Vice-Captain and their team our best wishes and good luck. John and Des are mighty opponents, on and off the course, if it was a drinking competition, (some might say it is), I would throw in the towel now.

I wish you all well and look forward to seeing everyone in August.

Kind Regards
Ian Stanley.

Opposing Captain’s Reply Letter - June 2011
My fellow Seanchairde....
I write to you all in my capacity as Captain of the opposition and would like to officially thank my fellow and opposing captain Ian for the invitation to recommence battle once again for the right to be crowned Sean Chairde champions 2011. I agree with Ian and his synopsis of our venue this year. I think it will prove a great success.

Over the last few days and weeks we have had some major ducking and diving in relation to players joining the SC along with some players taking a little time out. Now that my Captains picks are finalised, like Ian, I would like to give a hearty and warm welcome to Barry Maher and Eddie Lonergan. They are very welcome and I believe they will be a great asset to the SC.However I don't think they would have been a good addition for your team Ian as they are actually great craic! Some of you may not be aware of the latest news recently reported in the National enquirer and The Daily Sport. We have some major news in the transfer market. You have all heard of the various fighting factions around the world. The IRA and the Brits, the Suniis and Kurds, the Taliban and the Tallaght Band, Men and Woman, the east bank and the best wank(i mean west bank) the Israelis and the Palestinians or America and any country who have oil, but their grievances pale into insignificance with the news that Shay Kirwan has defected and crossed over.Yes folks he has left our team (the serial under performers) to join the old enemy. Sol Campbell himself, said when interviewed on SKY earlier today that he would sooner eat glass than contemplate such a crazy move no matter what the wages were. His own mother Mrs. Kirwan was quoted as saying "What the Fuck, Did He Bang His Head". So, it is official, last years captain is back with a bang, playing for the opposition.

It is worth noting though Mr. captain, not only to you get the class golfer that is Shay (never one a singles match) Kirwan, but you also get to welcome his Altar ego BIG TOM into your team. Just for the record Big Tom convinced Shay last year while he was getting dressed prior to his foursomes match to put a pair of soaking wet socks on, a pair he had worn the day before. When shay asked of TOM why he has to wear them. Tom told him to mind his own business and just put them on and that if he didn't wear them he would shank him round the golf course all day. Shay quietly squeezed into the foul smelling socks and left the sweet fresh pair sitting in his bag.One flew over the cookoo's nest springs to mind.

I guess it is no real surprise he has joined you considering he has been your best player for the last 9 years. You may as well have him in an official capacity. While your at it, picking up our discarded giblets why don't you put a bid in for Rob "the ex points collector" Hussey. He is after all the other Rooney. I can definitely say the loudest cheer and the most coveted pairing of the year will be the pairing who gets Shay in the Scotch foursomes on Thursday morning. For me it would be like winning Euro millions. Bring it on.

Now that you are a truly international team consisting of Americans, Irish, English, Turncoats and god knows who else, come August, I gladly accept your invitation Ian to enter the coliseum for battle in what will prove to be once again a great event.

I would like to remind you however, of the great expectations your team have and the pressure they will apply to you to achieve the same success your predecessors have. Your team have won 7 of the last 8 events. No Pressure Stano.

As you know our team have no expectations whatsoever. Last year we even adopted the Barney Song as our team anthem, what does that tell ya. We are only coming to Mount Woolsley for some fun and to make up the numbers. No pressure on us at all. In fact, once I finish penning this mail I think I'll go and prepare my loser's speech just so its all taken care of nice and early. You can think of our team in the same light as Eddie the eagle or England in the cricket world cup or even a White man winning the 100m at the Olympics. It just doesn't happen.

I'll sign off now and look forward to the upcoming Hoko cup where it will give us all a chance to catch up.

Kind Regards

Johnny Mac.
Here to make up the numbers.

P.S. on second thoughts you can have Hussey on a free transfer
