Previous Captain’s Letters

2017

My fellow Sean Chairde,

It is with great excitement that I get the opportunity to Captain our team for this year's event in Lough Erne .

It has been 13 years since I last had the chance to lead our team and have enormous boots to fill in eclipsing what Captain Crean achieved last year with his some of his inspirational team selections.

Mount Juliet was a huge success going down to the wire with the Hayes brothers caught up in a titanic battle to decide the fate of last year's winners, and the event has in the last numbers of years been very close with very little between the winning and losing side with the standard of golf being strong.

This year course could be the best that we have played on throughout our Sean Chairde history, the facilities look to be magnificent and sets this August up to be a fantastic battle.

I am very fortunate to have alongside me this year a very experienced VC in Tigger O'Reilly who has plenty of knowledge & a little baggage to bring to the table and would like to wish the opposing Catpain & VC Richie T and Richie G all the best for later on this year.

SOME GENERAL INFORMATION

Dates
The event is taking place on Thursday 24th of August to Sunday 27th of August with 3 nights B&B accommodation, 3 dinners (Thurs, Friday & Saturday), lunch Friday, prizes, beer and clothing.

Dear fellow Sean Chairde,

First of all I would like to say how delighted and honoured to Captain my team in Lough Erne this year. It's been 11 years since I last captained "the disaster of Dundrum" so the chances of doing better is probably quite good ! Luckily I have a great team who keep reminding me of it so I see it as motivation to spur me on.

Last year's event was a wonderful occasion and I really enjoyed assisting Alan throughout the weekend. It was probably the best weather we have had for the event. It was so close and could have gone either way. Hopefully we will have a really exciting end again this year.

One of the highlight's for our Team was Mick and Shay's outstanding performance against Ernie and John ( as far as the lads were concerned it was the only performance). Mick's putt on the 18th is what makes this event so special. It has had such a positive impact on the two lads that they still mention it on a daily basis. I actually had to remind Mick that we did in fact lose the overall last year but it doesn't seem to have much effect.

Going to Lough Erne this year brings a new course to The Sean Chairde. I would like to thank the Committee for securing this fantastic venue and the continuing work they do.

This year I have my good friend Richie "the intimidator" Glavin by my side. A quality player who I know will give sound input throughout the weekend. I am also extremely fortunate to securing two quality golfers Mark Byrne and Dave Mangan to my team. Both players play out of Greystones and are experienced in team golf. Welcome lads I'm sure you both will be a huge success.

Finally I would like to wish Gavin and Shane all the best for the weekend and I look forward to the battle that will unfold

Best Wishes

Richie Taylor
